CCTV: A systematic approach to security

As a leading manufacturer of explosion-protected CCTV systems, R. STAHL provides the highest level of security in hazardous areas of industrial production plants. Due to the plant- and application-specific design of its CCTV systems for hazardous Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, the camera specialist ensures the reliable surveillance of containers, reactors and piping, and the detection of potential sources of ignition or fire. R. STAHL conducts site inspections in order to customise the systems to the conditions on-site for an optimum fit. The company furthermore supports their customers from conception to commissioning of the individual CCTV system, including project engineering, documentation, Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT) and training. R. STAHL’s innovative camera technology puts an end to costly false alarms where so far safety reasons meant that they could not always be ruled out: for example, R. STAHL’s new series EC-840S-TIC IP thermal imaging cameras can detect flame movement and temperature separately. For the surveillance of production areas of up to 650 m², the thermal imaging cameras measure temperatures pixel by pixel, and only trigger the programmed alarm routine once predefined temperatures are exceeded. This reliable analysis puts an end to unnecessary call-outs of the fire brigade and the associated substantial expense.

These cameras together with the fast pan/tilt/zoom cameras (PTZ) from R. STAHL ensure extremely efficient surveillance concepts. During virtual “guard tours”, the PTZ cameras can precisely zoom in on control spots within 0.2 seconds, showing them in excellent quality thanks to the electronic image stabilisation. In addition, the latest generation of IP PTZ adhere to data protection requirements with their dynamic masking feature that can be used to hide persons, moving objects and areas that are not supposed to be shown. The S, T and Q profiles of the ONVIF open protocol standard ensure simple network integration of the cameras and uncomplicated data access for all relevant personnel. Together with corresponding video management systems, suitable server structures for video data recording and recommended accessory components, the thermal imaging and PTZ cameras are the cornerstones of a modern video management system that comfortably meets all requirements for optic security surveillance in hazardous areas. The cameras are certified according to ATEX, IECEx, NEC, CEC, EAC and Lloyd’s, and, depending on their type, are certified for operation in temperatures ranging from -50° C to +65° C.
